Daniel E. Hancock, Chief Executive Officer and Board Director

Education: Texas A&M University, BBA-Accounting, 1991; Certified Public Accountant - Texas

 

Danny began serving with Exothermix in September 2015 as the Chief Financial Advisor and became the CEO on September 1, 2018, bringing more than 25-years of accounting experience in sectors including retail, banking, telecommunications, agriculture, and medical. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of Berkeley Eye Center in Houston, where he was responsible for the daily accounting and financial needs of this large, successful professional association, including managing 15 satellite clinical offices; Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice-President of Choctaw Communications; and Asst. Controller of Houston-based Fiesta Mart, Inc. For the past nine years, Danny has worked independently as an accounting consultant for various Texas-based firms. Danny currently serves on the Board of Directors for Brazos Valley Juniors and the Stewardship Council of Christ United Methodist Church. 

Larry Bates, Chief Marketing Officer

Highlights: A strategic, high-energy Sales and Marketing leader with extensive experience in the medical device, healthcare, beauty, and skin care markets

 

Education: Attended Baptist College/Seminary, with focus on Biblical Studies and Theology

Responsible for Exothermix commercialization efforts Larry draws on his experience bringing disruptive innovation to market leadership in the areas world class cardio-pulmonary diagnostics, 3D ultrasound, professional athletics, skin card, infection control and prevention, with leading organizations like Medical Graphics, Viasys Healthcare, Siemens, Cook Medical, and GOJO Industries (Purell).  Larry is an intuitive, leader who drives relevance, creativity, and innovation while being analytically grounded. He is a fact-based strategist with the business acumen to easily prioritize mission critical initiatives, and focus investments and resources on those elements that drive significant revenue, profit, and value.

Darko Marquez, Vice President of Technology and Operations

Highlights:  Darko is heavily involved in Research and Development projects such as fundamental heat transfer modeling for the heating technology.

 

Education: Darko Marquez has received his B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Texas at El Paso. 

 

Darko has worked on Exothermix self-heating technology since 2011 and was part of the R&D team who achieved a safe heating technology with a multi-year shelf life. In 2012, Darko led the company’s efforts in registering as a Class I Medical Device Manufacturer. Most recently the company passed its first FDA Audit. 

Jeffrey Speich, Director of Business Development

Highlights: Chief engineer, application development, pricing/cost analysis, sales and marketing, customer liaison

Education: Masters of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering, B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, and Quality Engineering for Regulated Medical Technologies Certificate from Texas A&M University

​

Began his career at Exothermix as a R&D and Quality Intern in 2014 while finishing his Master of Engineering work at Texas A&M University and joined full time as a R&D engineer in 2015. Currently he is the Business Development Manager and has overseen 4 successful product launches including a critical component of a Class III medical device. In addition to application development, Jeffrey assisted the sales and marketing team with pricing/cost analysis and acts as the primary contact for many of our customers.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

John D. White, Chairman of the Board

Highlights: Over 40 years of experience as a fund manager, operator and lawyer, primarily in the Energy sector. Managed investments and served on the boards of several Energy, Oilfield Services and Cleantech companies 

 

Education: Political Science from Texas A&M University and his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law

 

JAG in the US Air Force, appointed by Governor Perry to serve on the Board of Regents of the Texas A&M University System service from 2003-2009; and was reappointed, serving again from 2011 to 2015. He was elected Chairman of the Board of Regents from 2005-2007 and served as the Vice Chairman from 2007-2009. John is a Board member of the Houston Technology Center, and previously served as Director for UTIMCO, Director of The Greater Houston Partnership, Chairman of the Association for Community Broadcasting and Chairman of the Board of the Ed Rachal Foundation.

Christian Ameri, Board Director

Highlights: Christian is a practicing attorney with more than 20 years experience focusing on commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, financing and corporate securities matters

 

Education: Christian holds a bachelor's degree in Economics for the University of California at Berkeley and a JD from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law

 

Christian is a practicing attorney who has worked for international law firms, startups and Fortune 500 companies.  He has held leadership positions with various startups focusing on consumer finance and green technologies as well as senior legal positions with public and private companies. Over the course of his career, he has advised boards and senior management on complex matters, including M&A, raising capital, credit facilities, asset purchases and sales, general commercial transactions, litigation strategy and regulatory compliance.

James Yeager, Board Director

Highlights: Over 35 years of experience in the flexible packaging industry. Holding positions from Plant Engineer, Production Manager, Plant Manager, General Manager, and Technical Manager. Jim is the founder and President of Innoflex Incorporated and for the last 20 years has been successfully supplying innovative flexible packaging solutions to the industry.

Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Jim has invented, patented, and successfully commercialized innovative packages and methods of manufacturing packages throughout the world. There are currently commercial applications in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India, Brazil, Mexico, US, and Canada. Innoflex has worked very closely with packaging industry leaders, ITW/Zip-Pak and The Hudson-Sharp Machine Company. Yeager with the help of Innoflex and these industry leaders have achieved commercial success with many large food processors such as Nestle, Con-Agra, Frito-Lay, Tyson Foods, Birds Eye, as well as, success with many large retailers such as Costco, Sam’s/Walmart, Target, Kroger, Safeway, and CVS. Currently he has 33 US Patents along with numerous foreign patents. Some of his package designs have won various flexible packaging awards. Yeager’s patented pre-applied Inno-Lok technology has created a paradigm shift in the utilization of the Form, Fill, & Seal process. There are currently more than a billion packages per year being produced that utilize Yeager’s patents.

ADVISORS

John Beckerdite, IP and Technology Advisor

​John Beckerdite serves as an advisor to Exothermix where he assists in the development and execution of the company’s intellectual property strategy. He is also involved in supporting technology development within the organization.

 

His prior experience includes a 26-year career with The Dow Chemical Company where he held a variety of leadership positions and participated in the commercialization of a number of new products and processes. He also served as the Senior Intellectual Capital Leader for Dow's Performance Materials division. In his business roles, John led R&D for the both the Amines and Oxygenated Solvents businesses. 

 

He is the founder of P&N Technology Consulting, which provides technical and intellectual property services to various industries.
 

He also is currently engaged with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station where he heads the Intellectual Property Management group and aids in evaluating the commercial potential for newly developed technologies. In addition, John is a past chair of the Texas A&M College of Science (CoS) External Advisory and Development Council and is a member of the CoS Academy of Distinguished Former Students.

 

John holds 13 patents across a variety of application areas including novel thermoplastic polymers, a new route to synthesize epoxy resins, approaches for minimizing crack formation in concrete, materials for shale inhibition in the drilling industry, and a self-heating device for the warming of biological samples.

 

John holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Texas A&M University.

Imtiaz Yakub, General Counsel

Imtiaz Yakub is a technology attorney, entrepreneur and investor, with a background in genomics and bioinformatics. He has been involved with several technology startups, including in consumer medical applications and health technology, and is particularly interested in the use of A.I. in health technology.

​

Imtiaz is general counsel for Exothermix, and advisory board member.   Additionally, he is corporate counsel on technology transactions and IP for the Marconi group, which is developing licensing platforms for connected cars and the internet of things.

 

Previously, Imtiaz was an IP attorney at two different full-service New York law firms providing strategic advice to Fortune 50 biotechnology and tech companies on developing and monetizing their IP assets including in the fields of biologics, drug formulations, cloud computing, SaaS, networked healthcare products, and mobile payment solutions. Imtiaz has a B.S. in Biochemistry and Genetics from Texas A&M University, a Ph.D. in molecular genetics from Baylor College of Medicine, and a law degree from the University of Toronto. As part of his Ph.D. thesis, he worked at the Human Genome Sequence Center at Baylor College of Medicine, focusing on genomics and bioinformatics, and was part of the International HapMap Project that developed a haplotype map (HapMap) of the human genome.

Dr. Ross Lee, Science Advisor

Highlights: R&D, tech development, product development, chemistry

 

Education: Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Michigan State University and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Rochester

 

Dr. Ross Less is a successfully served as a technology leader for the DuPont company for over 36 years, retiring in 2009. His expertise spans across a wide variety of technology, product and new business development firms, resin systems and innovative packaging systems. Dr. Lee holds over 20 patents and publications, and has received numerous commendations, including DuPont’s 2008 Sustainability Excellence award. Because he’s kind of smart like that, he is currently an Adjunct Professor at Villanova University teaching green science, industrial chemistry and engineering entrepreneurship.

Arlette Palo, Beauty & Personal Care Advisor

Highlights: Arlette is the principal of Arlette Palo Beauty Innovation Consulting, LLC.

Prior to starting her own business, Arlette was VP Corporate Global Innovation for the Estee Lauder Companies.

 

Education: Arlette holds a B.S. in Biology from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pennsylvania.  She has also taken graduate courses from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY and Leonard Lauder Brand Symposium from September 2010 - May 2011

 

Arlette lead white space platform development for new segments in Skincare and Makeup Innovation categories. She lead multi-disciplinary platform teams made up of various functions delivering world class innovation. She lead Innovation for product, trend and category newness supporting the strategic imperatives of ELC's APAC region.

Prior to 2004, Arlette was VP Global Product Development, Makeup and Fragrance at Clinique. Before joining the Estee Lauder Companies, she held various marketing, product development and formulating chemist positions. Arlette has enjoyed a diverse and impressive career over and has over 30 years in the cosmetics industry. Arlette is named on 14 patents.
